DI6 - LIVE [pour mes amis Montargois]

Death In June/Current 93 - Palazetto Dello Sport, Modena (1991)

Another unknown audience recording, reworked by Vince DOME. Provided by Vince DOME. Mentioned on the Current 93 live page HERE. Not a bad recording at all. Recorded live at Palazetto Dello Sport. Modena, December 8, 1991. According to Brainwashed the only Performers were Douglas P. and David Tibet (although I did read a comment on a message board that Simon Norris played keyboards at this show). It features the bulk of music by Death In June, till the last 5 tracks when Douglas and David suddenly appear as David and Douglas performing as CURRENT 93. An amazing feet that needs to be heard to believe.

Again, a big thanks to Vince DOME, who has supplied me with a large amount of material. Somebody tell the man thanks!

Death In June - Live At The Electric Ballroom (1984)

Another one supplied by Vince DOME!

Live at the Electric Ballroom, London (with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Psycho Circus, NON canceled) on November 7, 1984. The story behind Non canceling and the night of the gig is quite interesting in and of itself. Douglas P. in an interview on the The Vanishing Point radio program recalled it like this;
"...we were due to perform together on the same bill at the Electric Ballroom in the early '80s with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, it was Death In June, NON, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Boyd didn't show, he had problems and was... deported from the country, we later found out! He was sent onto Frankfurt, where he was about to start a European tour with Fad Gagdet, and that was an odd night, because we really sort of cracked the apocalyptic folk thin big time I think, because we were desperately trying to do these guitar melodies but the feedback was so odd it was actually panning around the place, and even through the monitors, and Marc Almond came up to us later and said "Ah, that was fantastic! I'd never heard a group play acoustic guitars with feedback and control it like that, like you did!" We were really pissed off, we were so disappointed with our performance, we didn't realise everyone thought this was marvellous! That night invented a new form of music by chance! In fact, we did get paid extras money by the promoter, because he thought it was so great too! I remember several years before, I'd almost had a fight with this guy when I was in a punk group, because he was truly a very difficult person. I'm extremely pleasant, I'm almost so pleasant I walk on water, but this guy was really nasty! It's not the way a lot of people would describe me either, but that's one of those things - I'm greatly misunderstood..."
Although this is not the greatest recording in the world, Vince has done a nice job of cleaning it up. Given the history of the night, and the special guests in attendance it make for a wonderful listen.

About the gig Vince says;
NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS, NON and PSYCHO CIRCUS also played, but no recording surfaced so far (NICK CAVE perfomance was probably taped but i was unable to find more info about it).

Death In June - Live At The Clarendon Hotel (1984)

THIS IS NOT THE SAME POST AS LAST POST.... Sorry, not trying to yell at you. This is a repost of Live At The Clarendon Hotel (1984).

Again, a big thanks to Vince Dome for helping out with these. I made a mistake in the write up for the last post, so re-read it to make sure you have the correct information. In this particular repost it is worth downloading again. Vince has significantly cleaned up the sound.

I believe this cassette originally was part of a series of cassettes released between 1980 and 1984 by EYAS Media/Cenaz (Patrick Leagas label). released eight cassette tapes of the Death In June's music. Some of this music has appeared on officially sanctioned Death In June releases. Here is a list of EYAS Media/Cenaz cassette releases
  • Archive One - Death In June/Sixth Comm (features live music from 81 and studio trax)
  • Arhive (1980-1984)
  • Live in Amsterdam
  • Live In The Living Room (featured on the CD "The Phoenix Has Risen")
  • Live At Farnham/Surrey
  • Live In Paris
  • Live At The Clarendon Hotel (featured here and screwed up on the bootleg "The Guilty Have No Paste")
  • Live At Glasgow/Nightmoves (posted HERE)
  • Live At The Fridge/London (featured on the LP "Night And Fog" and the CD "Die Schuldigen Und Der Nebel".also the cassette "Ring A Ring O Rose" and one track on the bootleg "Dogs Blood Order")

About this post Vince writes;
Originally planned for December 7, 1984, the gig was rescheduled for December 17, 1984 as a bigger hall of the Clarendon Hotel was needed due to the public demand. The two flyers were not modified.

IN THE NURSERY and THE JOY OF LIFE played as support, and a tape of the ITN performance also exist.

This was a good promotional evening for the new DEATH IN JUNE maxi "She Said Destroy", and the NER compilation "From Torture To Conscience" (with DEATH IN JUNE and IN THE NURSERY).

This tape surfaced on the silver CD bootleg "The Guilty Have No Paste" in the early 90's, dated as "December 11th, 1984". The tracking order was a bit strange if we compare it with the previous gigs ("Heaven Street" was more and encore than an opener). The tape used - at least a 1st or 2nd gen copy - was wrongly released on CD : despite the master was taped on a 90m tape side (45m), the generated copy used for the CD was on a 60m tape, with 30m on side A, and 15m on side B. The producer of the CD wrongly mixed the songs of side B... before the songs of side A. It can clearly be heard as the audience cheering after "Last Farewell" is mixed with the backing tape intro before "Rain Of Despair", and the same audience noise may be heard twice, after "The Calling" and again before "She Said Destroy". The gig is now running in its correct setlist order.

More than likely the line up for this event was Douglas P. (vocals, guitar, drums, keyboards), Patrick Leagas (vocals, drums, drum machine, keyboards, trumpet) and Richard Butler (keyboards), and perhaps even David Tibet. One reviewer wrote of the evening;
"I remember the Clarendon gig with In The Nursery(and Joy Of Life), as being one involving lots of technical problems but also being a great NER evening.
Cool things to listen for; There are some fun tech problems on "Carousel" and an interesting version of "Til The Living Flesh Is Burned" (very militaristic).

Death In June - Live At The Clarendon Hotel (1983)

You have probably noticed an increase in reader contributions lately. That's a cool thing. More love for the world. Because, it's all about love. I like to consider this blog an orgy. An orgy of love. With all of us, and are quasi internet mythos, writhing naked in cyberspace, collectively sharing musick.

Well, Joining us in this orgy is Vince Dome (he actually stumbled here more than actually be considered a "reader")... I like to think of Vince as keeper of the bootleg keys. Vince has mastered CD's by Dernière Volonté and recorded music for Tony Wakeford... and he is lending some of his vast stash to the world. Now, he wants it known, he didn't record these... but he has cleaned them up a bit to make them sound a little better. Often, there was not a lot to work with.

To start with we have a very early recording of Death In June at Clarendon Hotel in London on December 17, 1983. There is an amazing void of information regarding the performance.

Vince writes;
this gig is NOT the one on "Burial", which was recorded 2 months earlier at the same venue.

IN THE NURSERY did not supported the gig.
