Oi Polloi's first studio recording was a demo entitled Destroi the System, which is believed to have been released in 1984 or 1985. After the now defunct music weekly Sounds gave their previous home-recorded demo a favourable review, demand increased for gigs further afield. A second studio demo, Green Anarchoi followed before the release of the first vinyl offering, Resist the Atomic Menace. The line-up of the group has starred an impressive fifty members since their formation, making up the countless incarnations of the band. The band is currently based in Scotland.

The band holds a political view which some call ultra-hardline ecologism, with the motto "No compromise in defence of our earth". They support direct action in defence of the environment, and endorse resistance against racialism, homophobia, fascism and imperialism. They are considered by many to be one of the premier faces of anarcho-punk. They have recently started singing in Scottish Gaelic and use the language in day to day communications. They see the use of Gaelic and other endangered languages as important to maintaining the biocultural diversity of life. They recently toured Europe with Seattle-based punk band Mill a h-Uile Rud who sing entirely in Scots Gaelic. Singer Ruairidh has recently become involved in Gaelic television and has appeared as Moses on a Gaelic comedy programme. Despite what some believe, the band did not start out as a "skinhead band" but was in fact formed by a bunch of teenage schoolkids who played their first gig at Stewarts Melville College in Edinburgh in late 1981. After numerous other gigs in the Edinburgh area and the recording of the group's first cassette demo "Last of the Mohicans" on a home hi-fi, drummer Stu "Doccy" Dunn left to become a karate instructor and was replaced by Muz who later recorded with the Apostles. Apostles and Political Asylum original drummer Chris Low also did a stint on the kit for a time while various other one time Oi Polloi members went on to play in such varied bands as Disorder, Exploited, Gin Goblins, Newtown Grunts, Moniack and In Decades Decline. Drummer Murray Briggs who played on several of the band's 7" records as well as the "Fuaim Catha" LP now plays in Scottish Indie band Aberfeldy along with brother Riley who himself had a brief spell as Oi Polloi guitarist back in the '90s. Brian Tipa was instrumental in writing a great deal of material for the band in the mid-1990s. He was a member of the American band Blownapart Bastards, who later formed Uwharria, and now plays in Robotnicka. David 'Rat' Connolly was the guitarist through much of the early years, playing his last gig and album in 1991. Rat wrote the music for classic songs such as Pigs for Slaughter and Boot down the Door, he went on to become an Archaeologist and Middle Eastern adventurer. Former bass player Calum Mckenzie (92-99) has since relocated to the US and now plays in the NYC based thrash/punk band Death Mold.
The name Oi Polloi is a pun on the English loan of the Greek phrase hoi polloi (Greek:Οι πολλοί) which means literally "the many", but is extended to mean "the masses" or "the common people". Oi! refers to a form of punk music.

Conflict - Employing All Means Necessary

Conflict is an anarcho-punk band originally based around Eltham in South London. Formed in 1981, the band's original line up consisted of: Colin Jerwood (vocals), Francisco 'Paco' Carreno (drums), Big John (bass), Steve (guitars), Pauline (vocals), Paul aka 'Nihilistic Nobody' (visuals). Their first release was the ep "The House That Man Built" on Crass Records. By the time they released their debut album It's Time to See Who's Who on Corpus Christi Records, Pauline and Paul had left the band. Conflict later set up their own Mortarhate label, which put out releases by other artists including Hagar the Womb, Icons of Filth, Lost Cherrees, The Apostles, Admit Your Shit and others.
In 1983 Steve Ignorant, at the time a member of the band Crass, guested on the band's pro-animal rights single "To A Nation of Animal Lovers". After the dissolution of Crass, Ignorant later became second vocalist for Conflict on a semi-permanent basis. This followed a 1986 gig in Brixton, London wherein he had joined the band on stage for a few numbers.The band have always been outspoken regarding issues such as anarchism, animal rights, the anti-war movement and in their support for the organisation Class War, and a number of their gigs during the 1980s were followed by riots and disturbances. The band's 'Mortarhate' logo, originally designed by 'Nihilistic Nobody' is claimed to be a reference to the initials CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament) as well as incorporating two 'A's for anarchy and autonomy, and an 'N' for nihilism. The logo originally appeared around 1980 in Thanatos, a small circulation pamphlet produced by Toxic Graffity (sic) fanzine editor Mike Diboll. The band continues to exist today and are currently on tour in America, with further gigs lined up around England throughout 2007.

In the USA, the Seattle riots and the ‘straight-edge’ punk movement have accredited Conflict as inspiration, giving an incentive to resume activities and leading to huge interest in their Mortarhate label catalogue. Last year Conflict headlined a sold out Astoria theatre in London (in memory of Barry Horne, the animal rights activist who died in prison on hunger Strike) and subsequently began writing new material.

This ep from Conflict features in the title track one of the most powerful punk rock ballads of all time. Lyrically brilliant and musically mammoth. It evokes power and passion that was just fucking amazing back in the early 80's. Their "To A Nation Of Animal Lovers" ep on Corpus Christi was outstanding and "The Ungovernable Force" LP has to be one of the finest musical statements from an Anarchist band ever laid to vinyl but this ep still holds a special place in my heart. My poor copy of it has been thrashed to death. This was also the first Mortarhate release. So expect a few records from the likes of the Subhumans, Icons Of Filth, The Exploited, The Fits, Dead Mans Shadow, Rudimentary Peni, Crass, Instigators, Amebix, Lost Cherrees, Discharge and many many more.

I found this goodie on Mutant Sounds blog. Since I seem to have posted just about all of Charlie's albums I thought this would be appropriate. It's the double disc version of the famed soundtrack to Kenneth Anger's film of the same name. Here's an excerpt from Mutant Sounds:
About Lucifer rising soundtrack:
"It's incredibly difficult, nay perhaps impossible, to discuss Lucifer Rising without mentioning its "controversial" (to put it mildly) creator and his story. Bobby Beausoleil is currently incarcerated in California, serving time for his part in the murders committed by the infamous Manson Family. But his bizarre and horrific criminal record is not what's interesting about Beausoleil, or Lucifer Rising. Before his involvement with Manson, Beausoleil was active on the San Francisco hippy music scene, and was engaged to score Lucifer Rising, an intense occult meditation on film by Kenneth Anger (also known as the genius behind the films Scorpio Rising, Fireworks and the book Hollywood Babylon). Beausoleil and Anger had a falling out at Lucifer Rising's first screening, and did not speak to each other for many years. After Beausoleil's incarceration, Anger engaged him again to complete the score, after Led Zeppelin's Jimi Page failed to finish. Finally released in 2004, Beausoleil's score recorded entirely in prison is a classic of instrumental psychedelia, akin to some of the better early Pink Floyd tracks. Imagine the sun rising over the pyramids, because that's what you're gonna see in your mind when you play this. Heavy. A dark psychedelic masterpiece!The 2 CD version also contains early demos and jams that formed the basis for the soundtrack."

GG Allin & The Murder Junkies - Hated Soundtrack

Nasceu como Jesus Christ Allin, nome contraditório até demais, por seus pais serem muito religiosos. Ao entrar na escola, sua mãe mudou seu nome para Kevin Michael Allin, que nessa época já apresentava um pouco do seu comportamento caótico. Chegou a estudar num colégio para crianças especiais, devido ao seu comportamento. Na década de 70 conheceu o proto-punk e consecutivamente o Punk Rock e daí em diante não é preciso maiores explicações. A banda Murder Junkies o acompanhou praticamente a carreira inteira. Hated foi o documentário feito mostrando as suas apresentações bizarras no palco, se auto-flagelando, comendo merda, passando toda a sua loucura para o publico e essa é a trilha sonora, acompanhada de pequenos trechos antes de cada música. GG Allin morreu em 1993 devido à uma overdose.

G.G. Allin & The Scumfucks - Dirty Love Songs (1987)

G.G. Allin foi um cara muito doido. Cantava nu, cagava e jogava na galera, esmurrava a platéia, enfiava o microfone no cu, enfim, uma pessoa hiperativa demais pro seu tempo. Nunca terminou uma turnê, era sempre preso ou internado todo fudido num hospital. Queria trazer de volta o perigo ao rock n' roll, no fim dos anos 80, e acredito que tenha conseguido deixar sua contribuição. Se não me engano, morreu de overdose de heroína, depois de tocar fogo no palco, provocar um incêndio e fugir melado de bosta e nu correndo pelas ruas de Nova York, pra casa de um amigo, onde tomou a dose letal. Suicídio ou não, virou grande mártir do LIVE FAST DIE YOUNG; alguns inclusive dizem que seu nome de batismo era Jesus Christ Allin, daí o apelido GG.

Esse disco conta com alguns hits românticos como I wanna fuck myself, I wanna piss on you e o clássico absoluto da celebração scum, Drink, fight, fuck. O som é punkrockzão mal tocado e mal gravado.

Mais um grande disco do GG Allin. Eu, particularmente, prefiro a fase em que ele não tentava "cantar grosso", acho que nesse disco esse tipo de vocal soou um pouco forçado, e as musiquinhas à la Ramones com letras brutais acabam sendo mais divertidas justamente pelo contraste. Mas não deixa de ser um discaço! Além de conter o grande clássico Anal Cunt, candidato a hit de alguma banda foda que decida gravar o cover. Pra quem tiver se tocado, até hoje ninguém sabe se o nome da banda Anal Cunt surgiu dessa faixa, o Seth Putnam desmente, dizem que a banda surgiu antes da música e tudo, mas vai saber... Mistérios da "cena"...
Enfim, é um discão, recomendo a faixa citada e Highest Power, cuja letra é um chute no ovo de qualquer cristão.

Nesse vídeo, GG Allin nos dá uma amostra sincera do Live Fast Die Young em uma performance trivial em se tratando dele: leva murro no olho, quebra um cara do público, enche o saco de uma doidinha, caga, se mela de bosta e sai querendo abraçar todo mundo, abre a testa com o microfone... O show termina com o clima esquentando até demais e GG e a banda saem fora pra não serem devorados pelo público enfurecido e extasiado com aquela aula de ódio e decadência niilista. Thank you, GG!
