Current 93 - As The World Disappears... (1991)

Recorded live at La Lune des Pirates, Amiens, France, 15 December 1990 and preserved here in near entirety (the CD is the entire concert sans the encore "Hourglass For Diana"). Released in limited edition of 2000 copies. This show was a turning point for Current 93. It features guitar work of Michael Cashmore who quickly became a member of the band. Michael left the strumming of previous C93 apocalyptic folk in favor of a more classical picking style. The effects were nearly instantaneous. Gone were the nightmare whaling of some mad pagan tribe, replaced with refinement and culture. It paid off big with the brilliant trilogy of releases; "Thunder Perfect Mind", "Of Ruine Or Some Blazing Starre", and "All The Pretty Horses."I began to loose a bit of interest with Soft Black Stars. It didn't sound complete to me and was eerily reminiscent of Cashmore's "Death In A Snow Leopard Winter". "Sleep Has His House" was a pleasant enough release but by that point Tibet had all but stopped singing. And the pace of the music left me... sleepy. In my humble opinion "Black Ships Ate My Wallet" music was a return to form for Current 93. Musically adventurous and interesting. And lately the continued pilfering of my pocketbook has been less painful. For this show Current 93 shearing: David Michael Tibet - vocals; James Malindaine-Lafayette - harp; Michael Cashmore - guitar; Joolie Wood - violin and recorders; James Alexander Mannox - percussion.
