There is a mistake on the tracklist: 1-3 is listed as "Impulse", but it is the live version of "Grinding Inside" from the "The Flood Of White Light" 10" (Malignant Records).

At the intersection between dreams and ears wide open cognizance, between the known reality and the spiderweb cluster of dimensions dissecting it, reside the premier purveyors of dark ambience, Inade. But it's more than simple dark ambience that they traffic in, for their dreams are vast and unrestricted, and their imaginative, ears wide open approach to sound manipulation is audacious and unparalleled. It's as much weird ambient as it is dark ambient; strange, perplexing sounds in which origin must be questioned. Arcane musings from the cosmic wasteland collide with insectiod utterances culled from ancient alien terrain; deep audio ripples pulsing across dark matter plains collide with the ephemeral flotsam of German occult murmurings. Pterodactyl's squeal in atavistic joy, space itself breathes--inhalations like crackling Cthulhuian dread, exhalations etched on the machinery whine of Forever--and the ever shifting cartography of the infinite is sonically translated along the ridge of collision, where Inade dare to explore.
What remains is incomparable: the audio mythology they have nurtured, and the legacy that is Colliding Dimensions. Announced for several years we can finally present the long requested compendium of INADE that closes a circle from near the starting point of the project to their Peryt Shou release and concert in December 2002. All material of this set was recorded and sculptured during live shows and rehearsal sessions from 1995 to 2002 and was especially selected and mastered to receive high quality audio recordings with no compromise in sound. More than a half of the tracks have not been released in any form yet and this release brings back as well a lot of long sold out material like Vitriol, Flood Of White Light and more in new and powerful live versions.
The vinyl edition is limited to 525 copies only.

Sleep Chamber - Sexmagick Ritual

Its hard to find any recording whose strange, dark and frankly demonic amospheres compare to Sleep Chamber's 'Sex Magick Ritual'. This album is a work of dark art.

So damn hard to find due to its limited release and its quite obvious uncommercial appeal, it remains one of those must have collectors pieces. Shame this sort of stuff doesnt attract a larger audience because I think this stuff deserves wider exposure. Really very talented stuff.

Deutsch Nepal - Live In Barcelona (2009)

Another gift from 1HOMBRE. This one is the Deutsch Nepal portion of the above show (in Barcelona). Again, it's a pretty good audience recording for what seems like a very good show. He also included some photo's from the night.

I don't know the set list as I am not versed in the Deutsch Nepal discography. If someone wants to give it to me I would be grateful.

THE MOON LAY HIDDEN BENATH A CLOUD (all discography and book)

I think all of you that come the R.N. know this amazing project, they are one of my favourite bands of all time, like Dead Can Dance and Muslimgauze. I decide to post all the records here on R.N., this posts were on the other blog that im a contributor "The Rosemary Locale" (music blog that i dont post anything along time ago...), but i think they fit very well here, so i tranfer them to R.N. Behind the original records that i have, in this same post you find the book with all music letters created by Alzbeth. I know that its easy to find some of TMLHBAC records on the blogger world, and i also know that allmust that what you find was taken from my posts on The Rosemary Locale :P

"The Moon lay hidden beneath a Cloud (TMLHBAC) was an Austrian musical duo composed of Albin Julius ( Der Blutharsch). and Alzbeth. Their music reflected their deep fascination with myriad aspects of European medievalism including ritual, clerical chants and the daily experience of the peasantry.Their music combined modern electronics, tape loops and samplers with medieval instruments such as the shawm, hurdy gurdy, and Hexenscheit. Alzbeth was the primary vocalist for the group and often sang traditional songs in numerous archaic languages including Middle High German, Latin and Old French. Julius provided distorted and backup vocals."

The project name describe a phenomenon that occur in every place on earth, its a real situation that we can present. This situation provoke different reactions and experiences on people. Some feel exalted others stronger, free, depressed or puzzled with the scenery. But all feel noble with the phenomenon. The TMLHBAC music must be feel by the listener in personal way, This is the reason why they never put names on tracks and label their music, the space is open to fantasy…

Becouse the tracks are untitled, i will only say how mutch them are in ich record.The music was released on their own Arthur's Round Table record label and distributed by World Serpent Distribution.

L.A.A. - Mass for the Dead [2002] DCD

L.A.A. was the Pre - The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath a Cloud project,” Mass for the Dead" is a 2 x CD, Unofficial Release recorded on 1990-91. The first CD is studio material, thus rather clear sounding, whereas the second CD contains tape recordings done during sessions; the sound quality is very poor and the tracks are more or less identical to those on the first CD. Limited edition of 500 copies.

I like all records from TMLHBAC but this one is very special for me, becouse was my first approach to their sound, i perfectly remember the story behind this one. I was in school and one of my friends that in that time listen some stuff in Gothic Ethereal and DarkWave field, had visit a music store in Lisbon called "Symbiose" and he take to me their catologue, and in all that they have there was a very strange name that catch my attention, and when he had back to the store i had tell him to buy that one, and when i listening that, i think to my self "what the f.... is this? its AMAZING :) so from that time im a big "fan" of the band :)

" The castle ruins continue cursed.Black words of victory are now listen. A new order emerge from the silence. The standards where risen to the wind on the proclamation of heretic rites. Meanwhile, the intense and painful fog proceed. Angels chants invade our body,that is tortured on the front of our eyes. Alzebeth voice invoke the eternal blood...the Graal search is incessant and obsessive, like the religion images. Cristh is again crucify by the Alzbeth chant, with the sounds of Julius and words of Crowley, that are reveal by the moon and the sounding fog. Kostnice (1996, Vinyl 7")

Kostnice was recorded at the ossuary of Köstel Vsech svatých (All Saints' Church) in Bohemia.It has to be said that the music on this live recording is a bit thin and the sound quality does not compare with the studio-recorded CDs.
Issued in a limited edition of 222 numbered copies. Packaged in a paper similar to parchment-style and sealed with wax seals.

A Night In Fear (Split cd with DEUTSCH NEPAL) (1996)

A Night In Fear (1996 ART 8) is a joint production of the Moon lay hidden and their good friend, Lina of Deutsch Nepal. This is not a split CD but a close collaboration between the two parties, creating a neo-folk/ritual-industrial hybrid which is more than the sum of its parts. The CD cover appears to feature some jolly huntsmen, but in usual minimalist Moon style other details are marked by their absence.
Released in a jewel case with textured paper.

The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud & Hybryds - Madhr (1996, vinyl 7'')

This 7" was originally ment to be givin away at the 1996 concert of both groups at a church in Weißenburg, Germany. Although due to unacceptable restrictions from the Weißenburg Church Council, the concert was cancelled, and the 7" was made available through Arthur's Round Table. Initially ment as a split release by the two bands, it later evolved into a collaboration as each band "finished" the tracks of the other artist. Limited edition released in a sleeve with an embossed Algiz rune.

"Were you of silver, Were you of gold" (1996 ART 6) contains eight tracks which were specially written and recorded for the Dutch Radio 3/VPRO show 'Grand Disco Classique' and first broadcast in October 1995. This will also was issued in a limited (to 500) vinyl edition with an extra track.The theme reflects their "inner conflict" with the bloody history of Yugoslavia and its style is very Balkan indeed.

Yndalongg (1996, Vinyl, 10")

Yndalongg containing unreleased tracks, all recorded at Little Saxam Church, Suffolk
The A side is more typical of the duo's normal style,first track concerns the heinous 'Children's Crusade' of 1212 in which corrupt merchants traded on Christian zeal to transport thousands of children from Marseilles to Alexandria where they were sold into slavery. The song has a strong melody line, clever counterpoising of Elisabeth's two vocal tracks. The second track appears to be a thematic sequel.
The B side has a laid-back, ambient-industrial instrumental which is very like some Nurse With Wound.
Yndalongg is a 10" and comes in a grey sleeve with a grey poster featuring the group's logo. Limited edition to 555 copies.

The Smell Of Blood But Victory (1997, Box Set)

The definitive work of The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud. Symphonic strata of orchestral samples, beating martial rhythms and haunting chants evocate a very frightening vision of war and destruction. Track 02 is the one which will be reworked and used by Albin Julius with his solo project Der Blutharsch as the famous "God Punish England". CD 2 includes one of the best tracks ever by the band: it is about the madness of nazi SS commander Heinrich Himmler and the music is a powerful Wagnerian orchestration which would be worth of the best Laibach and Autopsia. The final track is a beautiful 14 minutes loops created using a sample from Prokofiev's "Alexander Nievski".

There is also a Special edition in boxset with bonus DVD (incl. live footage), a photo and a pin. Limited and numbered edition of 99 copies, that i dont have :(

God has a face, and it looks like Kevin Martin. Although the band so named has had a fairly stable multi-member lineup, it is just one of many outlets for this British noise technician’s twisted creativity. Working at a point where hardcore, experimental jazz and electronic music can be made to meet, Martin’s God mines a vein similar to the likes of Scorn, Naked City, Godflesh and some of Bill Laswell’s more abrasive undertakings. – Trouser Press

Free jazz/metal unit God was initially a project of UK musician Kevin Martin in which he shared duties with Shane Rogan, but by the time the band was finished in the mid 90s, it also included numerous other members. Martin started God when E. Mark Smith from Fall contacted him in the late 80s and asked for a submission for a compilation Disparate Cogscienti, which Smith wanted to release via his label Cog Sinister.

In the 80s, the band had no formal line-up and no particular style and it wasn’t until Martin met Justin Broadrick (Napalm Death, Godflesh) that the band released their debut. 1990 “Breach Birth ” EP came out on Situation Two Records and was produced by Broadrick. “Possession” LP followed two years later.

Trouser Press described “Breach Birth” as “a screeching, fiercely distorted deconstruction of metal that remains the most “rock” thing Martin has ever released.” “Possession” was described them as being “similar, but with almost symphonically bombastic production not unlike mid-period Swans;” and a “turbulent and confrontational live outing.”

Further on, the band produced two more LPs – 1993 “Consumed” and 1994 “The Anatomy Of Addiction”, as well as “Appeal To Human Greed” EP, which included remixes of band’s material recorded by the likes of Kevin Shields, Justin Broadrick and Bill Laswell.

All Music Guide pointed out that despite Justin Broadrick contribution to “Anatomy Of Addiction” the album is no ” Godflesh redux, since Martin’s own particular style remains intact.” Further on, they commented that “squalling sax breaks and contributions mix with his extreme, echoed shouts, but he does also throw in more growling, low-end singing. Mixed with the crisp, industrial strength (and sometimes styled) beats from (Scott) Kiehl and (Lou) Ciccotelli, which are generally arranged as tight, focused rhythms and pumped up at high volume, it makes for a fine new avenue for God to explore.”

Outside of God, band members were also involved in numerous other projects – Martin and Broadrick played together as Techno Animal until 2004, while Ice included Broadrick, Martin, Alex Buess and Lou Cicotelli from God, as well as Dave Cochrane (Head Of David, Greymachine, Jesu) and Joe Jobaggy (Terminal Cheesecake) in its line-up.

Anyway, this album is a nice experimental mix of free jazz styled wind instruments meets cold, pale music such as industrial metal (though it doesn't feel very metal at all).

God - Loco

Conceived in 1987 by saxophonist and prolific experimentalist Kevin Martin with guitarist Shane Rogan, although without a formal line-up until after their 1990 debut EP "Breach Birth." Numerous releases by the congealed nine-piece over the next four years explored dark fusions of punk, industrial, electro, free jazz and ambient dub.
This release was recorded live at St. Mary's Church, and features Justin Broadrick (Godflesh) playing guitar, who then went on to produced the record as well.

God - Anatomy of Addiction

"Anatomy of Addiction, the second God studio album, turned out to be the last, but it made for a good way for the band to go. Instead of continuing the previous releases' exploration into open-ended group jams, this time around God -- with a mostly unchanged line-up, interestingly enough -- focused much more (if not entirely) on brusque, heavy-duty techno metal with some free jazz touches. It's clear that Broadrick had a much greater say in the album this time out, especially with his massive, clipped riffing, but one or two songs aside (check "White Pimp Cut Up") it's not Godflesh redux, since Martin's own particular style remains intact. Squalling sax breaks and contributions mix with his extreme, echoed shouts, but he does also throw in more growling, low-end singing. Mixed with the crisp, industrial strength (and sometimes styled) beats from Kiehl and Ciccotelli, which are generally arranged as tight, focused rhythms and pumped up at high volume, it makes for a fine new avenue for God to explore. Where Anatomy resembles Possession the most, it ends up taking some interesting chances, like the droning sax start of "Lazarus" or the notably slower paced "Bloodstream," which actually also has one of the brightest, gentlest breaks ever in a God song (kudos to Kiehl's enjoyable percussion). In terms of overall sonic impact, though, it's hard to complain, and certainly Anatomy's not a commercial album by any standard. Martin's new emphasis on lyrics that are at points perfectly understandable certainly makes things a touch more accessible, but only just, while the blasting rhythms and feedback remain the undeniable center of attention. The addition of electric viola and, via guest performer Alex Buess, bass clarinet adds even more roiling chaos to Anatomy, and the album as a whole is a fantastic listen. " - Ned Raggett

Here is a Godflesh bootleg that seems to be one of the very few floating around the interwebs, that I've ever noticed anyway. The sound quality is pretty good, not pristine mind you, there are some overblown moments, but you can easily make out all the vocals, instrumentation, etc. I'd rate it an A-

I don't really feel the need to "explain" Godflesh, because we're all pretty much in agreement that they are one of the cornerstones of contemporary heavy music right? We can all agree that they were an ominous steamroller that devastated the listener through unrelenting precision, volume, and intensity right? And it seems that we can also agree that the band was the "total package" in that they had that presence most bands aren't committed to, the one that cloaks the group in a real and metaphorical dark haze, few photos exist, few interviews were conducted, and the band didn't really tour that much. Plus they predated the internet (at least the internet we now know) so if you wanted to know about them you had to dig real deep...you couldn't Google "Godflesh" and get their discography to pop up. I guess what I mean is that the band existing within an aura of mystery, and that simply heightened the excitement of any Godflesh news.

Listen to this recording very loud and with the lights out. Also, punch yourself in the face every three minutes or so for full effect.

Godflesh - Streetcleaner

This album can be summed up fairly simply: Heavy, mid paced industrial guitar riffs with super low bass that locks in perfectly with the drum machines, with some desperate, massive vocals roared by Broadrick. There's the occaisonal moments where thing will drop out, to give your ears some respite (The heavily treated guitar intro in Mighty Truck Krusher ) Still, as far as I can tell, Godflesh tried to write the heaviest, darkest industrial record they could, and they succeeded. The drums are huge and fit the sound so well.. Sometimes they're upfront, like the pulverising Pulp, sometimes they're a long way in the background, but for the most part, they are shattering and splintering eardrums. The guitars sound very heavy throughout the whole album, especcially in the superb Christbait Rising, and in the awesome Head Dirt. Whether they're playing super low riffs, or providing a backdrop for the bass and drums, the guitar demand to be noticed.

Jesu is a band formed in 2003 in Abergele, Wales, UK by Justin Broadrick following the breakup of Godflesh. Jesu was the name of the last song on the final Godflesh release, Hymns, and Broadrick decided to adopt it as the name of his new project.

The first release, the Heart Ache EP, was released in 2004 and featured Broadrick playing all of the instruments. It was followed in 2005 by the full-length self-titled LP, which featured the addition of bassist Diarmuid Dalton and drummer Ted Parsons, although not every song featured both new members.

With their third release, 2006’s four song Silver EP, Jesu took a more melodic and layered approach, gaining comparison to shoegazing band My Bloody Valentine.

Their second full-length album, titled Conqueror, was released in February 2007 in the US, UK, in Europe and Japan. The Japanese edition also contained a bonus disc featuring the two tracks that constitute the ‘Sun Down’ / ‘Sun Rise’ EP, released elsewhere as a 12” album on April 23.

The band made their United States live debut, in March of 2007, as an opening act for Isis, although work permit problems caused them to miss the first three weeks of the tour. Neither Ted Parsons nor Diarmuid Dalton were able to participate in the tour and were temporarily replaced by Danny Walker, of Intronaut, and long time Broadrick collaborator, Dave Cochrane, respectively. During this tour, Jesu also made its South by Southwest debut as part of a Hydra Head showcase.

‘Pale Sketches’, a collection of older solo works from 2000-2007 was released in October 2007 on Justin Broadrick’s own label, Avalanche along with a new four song EP entitled Lifeline, released by Hydra Head in the United States and Daymare in Japan.

Broadrick has also contributed remixes of songs, using the Jesu name, for Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Explosions in the Sky. Future releases include split 12” albums with both Eluvium and Battle of Mice.

Battle Of Mice… New York, United States (2005 – present)

Newly formed from members of Neurot Recordings’ label mates Red Sparowes and Made Out of Babies in 2005, Battle of Mice from New York, USA delivers a crushing heaviness you might expect, but at the same time creates stunningly beautiful moments of lush guitars and elegant vocals, powered by slow, methodic drumming.

Battle of Mice is comprised of Julie Christmas (Made Out of Babies) on vocals; Josh Graham (Neurosis visuals, Red Sparowes, A Storm of Light) on guitars/keyboards; Tony Maimone on bass (Book Of Knots and previously of Pere Ubu) and Joel Hamilton on drums…, who has worked with Sparklehorse, Unsane, Frank Black, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits and more.

They have released two split EPs “Triad” and one with Jesu.
In 2006 their first full album “A Day of Nights” has been released on Neurot Recordings.

Last year sunn 0))) was invivted to perform at a ancient cathedral in Bergen Norway . The performance was captured via 24 track mobile recording and the resuluts were pressed onto double 180 gram vinyl. This recording will be available exclusively on vinyl only. There will not be a digital release (cd or downloads). Pure analog! The 0))) lineup for this performance includes Attila Csihar (Mayhem) on vocals, Steve Moore (Earth, Ascend) on the churchs' legendary pipe organ and Norwegian native Lasse Marhaug on electronics.

The packaging for "Dømkirke" was designed with the utmost attention to detail and quality that perfectly compliments the audio content. Each 180 gram vinyl comes in a heavy stock, full color inner sleeve that features stunning photographs from the performance. The cover of the gatefold jackets feature exclusive art by Tanya Stene (Burzum, Ulver, Darkthrone).

The jackets themselves are ultra-durable extra thick cardboard stock with thick, luxurious lamination. These were modeled after the Impulse! labels' LP jackets from the '60s. This package is durable, built to last and serves as the perfect shelter for this archival release.

Nicholas Mollerhaug, the festival curator, wrote these liner notes for the album:

"Our idea behind this concert was to commission a piece of music from Sunn O))) referring to the gothic gregorian hymns of the Late Middle Ages. Hymns that flourished Bergen Cathedral in its earliest years: The age of the Great Famine and The Black Plague. The gregorian hymns of this time reflected the despair, the terrors and darkness of the world. Musically the hymns consisted of long slow lines of unison melodies. The unisonity, the dark mood and the slow melodic development are all elements that also can be traced back to Sunn O)))'s musical universe. These parallells between Sunn O))) and the medieval times gave birth to this commission - premiered at the grand final of Borealis Festival 2007.

The Bergen Domkirke is dedicated to the Norwegian king and patron saint Olav (995-1030). The church was built around 1150. In the 1240s it was given to Fransiscan beggar munks. After fires in 1248 and 1270 the building was extended. With the financial help of king Magnus Lagabøte (1263-1280) the church got its present form and was finished in 1301. The very same king is buried in the chansel of the church. After the reformation the church became the cathedral of Bergen. It was then again struck by fire in 1463 and 1702. A cannon ball in the the church tower is a reminisence of the Battle of Bergen Bay in 1665.

This record documents what happens when aesthetic openness and lack of prejudice rules in a medieval cathedral.

Without these values inhabited in the legendary kantor of Bergen Cathedral- Magnar Mangersnes - this concert would never have been possible.

Like many listeners with less than a passing knowledge of classical music, I've still managed to accumulate a handful of favorite pieces over the years. This moody, micro-evolving symphony by Gorecki is a consistent go-to for me. It's a slow build of anticipation in three parts that should appeal to minimalist types who go for Steve Reich or The Necks. I was surprised to learn that Gorecki's Third is one of classical music's most popular pieces and biggest sellers. Given the low key nature of the music, that seems shocking to me, but it shows what I know about the genre. Relax for this one, this hour-long piece is a trip. Links in Comments

Henryk Górecki has established himself as one of the most well-known composers of the late twentieth century, with a musical style whose poignancy and accessibility found a broad and diverse audience. His worldwide recognition was rather slow in coming, however, and although his orchestral and chamber works from the 1960s and 1970s found favor with audiences in Poland and some critics abroad, it was the Third that eventually catapulted Górecki into the classical music spotlight. The Symphony No. 3, subtitled "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs," is scored for orchestra with soprano soloist and is cast in three somber movements. The first and longest movement, marked Lento, sonstenuto tranquillo ma cantabile, begins with a slow, deliberative canon, the theme of which is adapted from an old Polish folk song. At its apex, the canon is interrupted by a soprano soloist singing a fervent lament for Jesus in the voice of Mary: "My chosen and lovely son, share with your mother all your wounds...." Her text is taken from the Songs of the Lysagóra, a sacred collection dating from the fifteenth century. In the shorter but equally powerful second movement, a spare harmonic background casts a shadowy pall over the heartwrenching maternal words that were found scrawled on the wall of a Gestapo prison by an 18-year-old female inmate. The tone here turns religious, as well: "Little mother, do not weep, Purest Queen of Heaven, pray, do not abandon me, Hail Mary." The third movement, constructed as a set of variations, once again visits the theme of a mother mourning for her son; its text and theme were derived from Polish folk song. Despite the Third's intense expressivity and uncluttered musical language, its fame cannot be attributed to its style alone — and in fact, Górecki remained a relatively obscure figure to American audiences for some time after its composition, while three separate recordings of the piece enjoyed only average sales. However, in a happy convergence of musical style, shrewd marketing, and shifting public tastes, the 1992 recording of the work, featuring Dawn Upshaw and the London Sinfonietta, became an overnight hit and climbed up the classical as well as popular charts and sold over a million copies. Górecki's "Sorrowful" Symphony touched a more universal nerve and spoke to a broader audience than virtually any other classical work of its time. (Jeremy Grimshaw)

"This collection, highlighting obscure underground post-punk and new wave from France was released on Tigersushi Recordings, the record-label arm of the Tigersushi website, devoted to cataloging and tracing obscure connections between underground, post-punk, dance and avant-garde music. Previous compilations from Tigersushi included K.I.M.'s superlative Miyage CD, as well as No More G.D.M., which together contained more leftfield classics and unjustly obscure artists than anyone could shake a stick at. So Young But So Cold, compiled by Volga Select, is a bit less generous with its treasures. Perhaps the chosen time period and geographical area narrow the field too much, forcing Ivan Smagghe and Marc Collin to include many tracks that have a hard time living up to "lost classic" status. However, the disc still includes its share of tasty nuggets, chief among them a pair of stunning tracks by a group called The (Hypothetical) Prophets. Like most people, I'd never heard of this early-80's French new-wave group until this compilation. Their single "Person to Person" seems to have been influenced by The Human League, but takes off in its own idiosyncratic trajectory, lyrically and musically. Male and female singers describe their romantic fantasies in a monotone, proto-HipHop style: "I want a middle-aged, plump and cuddly, distinguished, hairy-chested, double-breasted, gray-templed, tall attractive, rich and active father figure." This against a minimal rhythm-box beat decorated with analog detritus and electronic drones, with occasional Beach Boys-esque expansions into vocal harmony. The Prophets' other appearance, "Wallenberg," is a dark synthscape intertwining mutated vocals narrating stories from World War II, with frequent blasts of saxophone, eerily evoking the later work of The Legendary Pink Dots. The first track on the compilation "Suis-Je Normale" ("I Am Normal") reminded me of Broadcast (or Broadcast's forerunner The United States of America), with its minimalist synths and Jane Birkin-esque vocal delivery. Mathematiques Moderne's "Disco Rough" has a raucous beat, but its chorus is unfortunately reminiscent of Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton's excruciating "Islands in the Stream." The Metal Boys were an offshoot of underappreciated electro-punks Metal Urbain, but their track "Carnivale" proves that the talent didn't come along for the ride. Charles de Goal's "Synchro" bears an unmistakable resemblance to The Vapors' hit "Turning Japanese." Was Moderne's "Switch On Bach" meant to be the French response to Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus"? It's hard to say, but at least this collection ends on a fairly strong note, with a row of Kraftwerkian space-rock and proto-techno tracks. Best among them is Nietzschean scholar Richard Pinhas' funereal, Tangerine Dream-influenced "Iceland," a densely atmospheric foray into the ice-cold nether regions of arctic tundra. A more inconsistent collection is not likely to be found, but Tigerushi's So Young But So Cold still has much to recommend." — Jonathan Dean

"Ministry and Peaches, Talking Heads and Fatboy Slim — I hear all these and more as seminal influences here in this very listenable CD, a snapshot of an apparently brilliant little epoch in early French synth-based pop. What matters here is not the era but the songs, invariably good (whether your taste) and strikingly original and, moreover, very good-sounding by any era's standards. The vocals are quite affecting, at moments ethereal, at times just so European and hot. There's real fire in some tracks — a drum machine and a moog synth pattern CAN really rock out and be downright sexy, coming from the right person's mind. That is the timeless triumph of the very good collected material on this disk."

NON - Children of the Black Sun

On the eighth full-length album under the guise NON, Boyd Rice has created something that falls on the border of beautiful and just plain scary. Children Of The Black Sun is as bleak as the title suggests. As frightening as most classic horror film soundtracks, NON produces a perfect audio underworld for horrific creatures like vampires, demons and ghouls. A more perfect soundtrack for Nosferatu could not be imagined.

Falling somewhere between David Lynch and Anne Rice, Children Of The Black Sun is a continuous mix of black noise. The failure to break between the seven tracks makes it even more unsettling because the listener never gains a moment of silence. It doesn't help as well, when he mixes in the sound of fires burning (envision hell) and angels singing on "The Fountain Of Fortune", as well as the voice of the creepiest man on earth on "Son Of The Sun".

Children Of The Black Sun is extremely unnerving to listen to in one sitting, but saying that just proves how effective the atmosphere Rice has created is.

Bonjour à toutes et à tous,

Je ne suis pas très actif en ce moment (sur ce blog, j'entends ...) mais j'inaugure ici une série de quatre posts. Pour commencer, le premier album d'Ausweis, sorti en 1984. Pour en connaître plus sur ce groupe, je vous encourage à visiter la page myspace qui leur est consacrée et qui, une fois n'est pas coutume sur ce site, est assez complète, car on y propose notamment de très belles vidéos d'époque.

Musicalement, un groupe très intéressant avec des racines Cold Wave et Punk, et, chose rare chez les groupes français qui pratiquent ce style, un chanteur qui a une voix digne de ce nom ! Voilà, Ausweis c'est donc ma caution "Cold Wave / Indus" pour ce mois-ci ... (Belle caution, avouez-le tout de même !).

Bon ! Indéniablement, la petite perle du semestre ! Le mini-LP "Nouvelles du Front" du groupe D. Stop, sorti en 1983 sur le label Romance. Une belle petite rareté que je dois à mon copain Stéph !

Forcément, pas le groupe le plus connu d'Orléans (ville qui je le rappelle a vu la naissance du label Chaos Productions) et pourtant ce groupe mérite indéniablement le détour. Je parlais de la "French Touch" des années 80 : et bien, ici on y a droit ! Et dieu, que j'adore ce son, qui doit bien évidemment beaucoup à Métal Urbain.

Operation Cleansweep – Powerhungry

First LP of the power electronics industrial duo from germany. Originally released in 1996 as an LP in an edition of 500 copies.

Sounding like a combination between Genocide Organ, Anenzephalia, and Dagda Mor, the thick analog frequencies, harsh rumbles, and hateful samples create an insanely evil atmosphere which has its own unique sound.

This is definitely an album which deserves to be played at high volume with lots of bass. Like the first track, White Patriots, sounds much better loud, with the commanding samples and heavy bass rhythms. There are occasional vocals, but instead of working against the music as is all too common, they’re heavily processed and distorted and blend right in.

le syndicat electronique is a one-man obscure electronic project and founder of the "first electro wave label in france... 100 % independent...and committed" (globaldarkness.com) called invasion planète (which started somewhere in 1999 and seems to be dead now :( -> "what happened to invasion planè te?"). the guy behind le syndicat electronique is the creator of the european third wave movement, also known as retro-garde (lovely name, isn't it?). retro-garde is here being used to describe the comeback of obscure and minimal electronics and is probably in some way linked to the laibachian artistic tendencies called "retro-avant garde".

this is a small 7'' vinyl release, limited to 300 copies in both, red and blue vinyl. i chose it cause i think it's a pretty nice introduction to the world of minimal synth/electronic, not groundbreaking, not exotic, but very dark and danceable (no prejudices now, please). after hearing this record, i decided to get more of lse's material. maybe you'll express the same wish.

QUEEN ADREENA . DISCOGRAFÍA (1999- 2008)

Ya les había presentando a esta banda londinense punky rokera, ja y ahora comparto con ustedes todos sus discos, hasta ahora claro, espero ya lanzen uno para le 2009.

La formación inicial del grupo estaba constituida por la vocalista Katie Jane Garside junto al guitarrista Crispin Gray, los cuales habían compartido carrera musical en otra reconocida banda, aunque de trayectoria corta, llamada Daisy Chainsaw. A ellos se les unieron el batería Billy Freedom y el bajista Orson Wajih, con quienes sacaron su primer disco, llamado Taxidermy, en el año 2000, en la casa discográfica Blanco y Negro Records. Más tarde Billy Freedom sería reemplazado por Pete Howard, ex miembro de The Clash.

Posteriormente la banda firmaría con la discográfica Rough Trade Records para su segundo lanzamiento, el cual tuvo lugar en el año 2002 bajo el nombre de Drink Me. De este disco se extrajo el single Pretty Like Drugs.

Poco tiempo después de sacar su segundo disco, la compañía Rough Trade les deja marchar y el bajista Orson Wajih abandona la banda. Pasan a firmar con el sello One Little Indian Records, quien les editó el disco llamado The Butcher and the Butterfly en el 2005 con Melanie Garside como bajista (hermana de Katie Jane). Poco tiempo después abandonaría la banda y sería reemplazada por Paul Jackson. En 2007 grabaron Ride a A cock Horse y en 2008 grabaron Djinn en Japón con Imperial Records. (wiki info)

Excelente clásico del power electronics alemán, con ritmos repetitivos y enfermizos, voces agresivas y movilizantes, trabajando sus conceptos en base a la sobre-identificación con las ideas de control y represión de las corporaciones y organismos financieros globales, innovaron en el mensaje contracultural, mostrando la hipocresía y la violencia de la dominación sin ningún tipo de atenuantes. Sin duda para no dejar de escuchar!

Anenzephalia – Ephemeral Dawn

One of the Tesco Organisations’ first releases, Anenzephalia surfaces again with a seminal re-release not only for the Mannheim label, but for industrial music in general. The 11 pieces are drawn from live recordings made between 1992 and 1995 at events held in Kriszthell, Drais Sanatory, 4th Floor Institute,et al.

Those who didn’t get their clammy hands on one of only 750 vinyl copies can take comfort in this digipack re-release. And that’s where the comfort ends. One of the few industrial releases beyond the early 1980s that encapsulates genuine death factory ambience, Dawn is an analogue tour through distorted voices and looped torture machinery, interspersed with analogue winds and inhuman atmospheres.

Anenzephalia’s production is terse, and slightly understated. The handy booklet proclaims, “Here the Dream Dies!” and grainy photo layouts portray torture and death in that recurring obscenity tactfully surnamed “America and the Middle East”. The music is droning, looped and disturbingly compelling. What is so masterful about this release is an ideal lacking in some contemporary industrial power-merchantry . It’s quite simple really: The production is executed with authority and craft, building tension and depth. Not relying on saturating the listener with production overkill and noise gimmicks. IMO.

Ephemeral Dawn simultaneously injects a sense of utter foreboding and hopelessness, whilst relentless samples of mechanised death and decay throb underneath reversed voice-loops and horror film electronics. Somewhat reminiscent of being strapped into a chair and played snuff movies for hour after hour. This is the spirit of genuine claustrophobia and disturbance that early industrial sought. And gradually lost. Dawn’s production is seething and frightening, yet never overplayed. Low hertz frequencies vibrate the nerves and a sense of icy control permeates its collage-like design. “Schockwelle: Krisis” loops the gasping and splashing of some poor sod being held underwater, emulating the rising/falling electronic wind prevailing in TG’s “Hamburger Lady”. That one will stay with you. Track 8, “Liebombast” had to be my favourite. Omnipresent and reverbed strings propel the baleful, disturbed lyrics of B/Moloch, Anenzephalia’s sole member.

Disturbing, soundtrackish and hypnotic. Brilliant. This is an important moment in industrial music, particularly in the charting of its developments and offshoots from the late 1980s period until the present day. This is “Industrial Music for Industrial People”, as once put. If you’re not one of the lucky 750, do yourself a grisly favour and order one. From now on, forget leaving animal entrails and bloody pentagrams on your neighbours’ doorsteps. Rotate this CD instead. Frequently.
